Money has power. It shapes the kind of world we live in and the one we’ll leave behind.
Each year, Ethical Investment Week reminds Australians and New Zealanders that investing can be both profitable and purposeful. It connects people who want their money to reflect their values with advisers and resources that can help make it happen.
Now in its 12th year, the 2025 theme “Ethical Investing and Growing Generational Wealth” explores how we can build prosperity that doesn’t stop at financial returns, but extends to social, cultural, environmental, and spiritual wellbeing for generations to come.
What is Ethical Investment Week?
Ethical Investment Week is coordinated by the Ethical Advisers’ Co-operative, a not-for-profit network of more than 40 specialist financial advisers across Australia and New Zealand. Collectively, members manage over $3.14 billion in ethically invested funds – helping people invest with confidence and purpose.
Throughout the week you’ll find online and in-person events, practical workshops, and webinars designed to help you understand what ethical investing really means – and how to make it work for you.
Why ethical investing matters right now
Australia is entering the largest intergenerational wealth transfer in its history. Over the next 20 years, between $3.5 trillion and $5.4 trillion will change hands – much of it through property and superannuation.
And the next generation? They’re investing differently. Research from the Morgan Stanley Institute for Sustainable Investing (2024) found that:
- The majority of investors globally (88%) are interested in sustainable investing.
- Nearly all of Gen Z (99%) and Millennials (97%) express strong interest.
- There’s confidence in performance, with 59% of investors planning to increase sustainable allocations in the next year.
- Almost 80% would choose an adviser or platform based on sustainable investing options.
Ethical investing isn’t a niche anymore – it’s how tomorrow’s wealth is being built today.
What’s happening during Ethical Investment Week 2025
Across Australia and New Zealand, advisers will host interactive sessions and real-world examples of how to align money with meaning. The 2025 theme, Ethical Investing and Growing Generational Wealth, highlights the importance of investing for future generations.

A film inspiring the next generation: Future Council
A highlight of this year’s program is the documentary Future Council, the new documentary by award-winning director Damon Gameau (2040, That Sugar Film). The film follows eight young people as they travel across Europe, meeting global leaders and exploring practical solutions to today’s biggest environmental and social challenges.
Their message is simple – and powerful: every investment shapes the future.
How to make ethical investing part of your legacy
Ethical investing is about making financial choices you can feel good about – today and long after you’re gone.
Here are three practical steps ethical advisers such as Paul Garner CFP®, founder of Novo Wealth in Adelaide and proud member of the Ethical Advisers’ Co-op, recommend:
- Work with an adviser who understands your values.
A specialist ethical investment adviser can help you grow wealth responsibly, balancing financial goals with positive impact. - Document your intentions.
Consider including your ethical investment preferences in your will or estate plan, or establish structures that ensure your legacy continues to reflect your beliefs. - Share what you’ve learned.
Talk to family and friends about why you invest ethically – these conversations often inspire others to start their own journey.
